Animation Nights (16+): Surrealist and Absurdist Short Films

A programme of animated shorts exploring the unmistakable world of Priit Parn - and the artists influenced by his surreal, absurdist approach to storytelling. Among them is Leonid Shmelkov's 2020 animated short Room with a Sea View. Herbert arrives in a seaside city on a long work trip and falls in love with a strange, beautiful flower-shop assistant. Suffering from insomnia, he watches billiards on TV - but now even that cannot quiet his obsessive desire. A dreamlike and darkly funny story of longing, loneliness and a reality gradually slipping out of place. After the screening, we'll discuss the films with director and animator Natalia Antipova, who will also introduce Priit Parn's work and influence.
