What the Full Moon Party actually is
The Full Moon Party is a large open-air beach celebration held at Haad Rin Nok on the south-east tip of Koh Phangan. Music comes from multiple beach venues rather than one single stage, so the experience changes as you walk along the bay.
The island becomes much busier around party night. Book accommodation and onward travel early, especially for December and holiday editions.
How to get there and leave
From elsewhere on Koh Phangan, shared songthaews and pre-arranged taxis are the practical options. From Koh Samui, use an official ferry operator and verify the last connection rather than assuming there will be a late boat.
Roads around Haad Rin are steep and congested. Riding a scooter after drinking is not a safe return plan.
What to bring
Pack light: closed or secure footwear, a small amount of cash, water, phone protection and a screenshot of your accommodation. Leave valuable jewellery and your passport in secure storage.
A safer party plan
Crowds, heat, alcohol, broken glass and the sea create predictable risks. A few decisions made before arrival make the night much easier.
- Arrange your return ride before the busiest part of the night and agree on a meeting point with friends.
- Keep shoes on, avoid the fire-rope area and do not swim after drinking or when the sea is dark.
- Carry limited cash, keep your phone protected and drink water regularly.
